A Ton of New Stuff Coming to GeekGirlCon ‘16

It’s officially October, and do you know what that means? GeekGirlCon 2016 is less than one week away! When this post goes live, there will only be 5 more days until we all join together in glorious, geeky harmony.

Each and every year, GeekGirlCon grows bigger and better. This year, we’ve got tons of fabulous contributors, an amazing lineup of exhibitors, great panels on cosplay, gaming, and fandom, and so much more in store for the weekend. As we continue to grow, we get that much more room and opportunities to host a ton of events that are new to the convention, and we’re going to talk about those nouveau happenings today:

A Bigger, Better Con

For starters, this year’s convention is BIGGER than ever before! With the 4th floor expansion, we’ve got more space to cram in that much more awesome content. Our exhibitor hall is going to be gigantic, we’ll have tons of folks on the floor of our gaming and DIY Science sections — every nook and cranny is packed with panels, social events, and even a couple quiet spaces to sit back and relax for a minute in the midst of all that crazy fun.

GGC After Dark

As I wrote about in a former post, we’ve got some fun in store for our 18+ attendees. GeekGirlCon After Dark is a series of panels geared towards all of the adults joining us next weekend. Featuring more scandalous subjects, these panels will explore everything from sexuality in YA novels, the science of kink, to body positivity and BDSM. With hosts of contributors from internet-savvy filmmakers and published authors, there’s fascinating content with a more mature zing.

Meetups Galore

Are you a fan of Harry Potter? What about Star Trek? Star Wars, or Anime? Interested in meeting up with a bunch of other fans who share that love? For the first time ever, we’ll be hosting a bunch of fan meetups to take some pictures, talk about those shared passions, and make some new friends. Make sure to check the schedule and see when and where your fellow-fans will be meeting up and join in on the fun!

Nursing Room

We don’t want you to miss out on the fun because you can’t find a babysitter, we encourage you to bring your children! At GeekGirlCon, we totally understand that bringing the youngins’ can be a little stressful, so this year we’ve decided to open a space where you can retreat for a few minutes of peace and quiet. The Nursing Room, located right off the second floor elevator, gives parents a quiet space to nurse children in a comfortable environment.

…and remember, all children under the age of 5 get in free!

Sessions with a Specialist

We’re all about encouraging woman and girls to follow their dreams, so we’ve got specialists and professionals from STEM and creative fields ready and waiting to talk about what they do best. Set up to resemble a sort of speed-dating atmosphere, you’ll get the opportunity to chat with folks from different careers and professional backgrounds all in one go.

Seattle Indies

I love gaming, and I am personally very excited to say that Seattle Indies is joining us this year! Various Indie developers from across the Seattle area will be on the gaming floor to present new games and showcase prior releases, prepared with live demos to get hands-on and ready to talk about their work. They’ll be presenting everything from artistic side-scrollers to Shakespearean retellings.

Coming Soon: Merch Store Online

This year, we are excited to announce that our GeekGirlCon Store will be launching online! Make sure to stop by our official merch table to learn more about the launch, and get ready to shop all year ‘round for your GeekGirlCon essentials.

#GGC16

If you’re at the con, make sure to use #GGC16 via Twitter and Instagram so we can see all of the cool stuff you’re up to. We’ll also have a series of #hashtags that we’ll be using during the weekend of the con to live tweet various events and panels, so stay tuned to learn what those are and which members of our team will be tweeting (I will be!)
