GeekGirlCon ’22 IS COMING! AND IN-PERSON!

GEEKGIRLCON ’22 IS COMING

Like so much of the world, GeekGirlCon has been functioning on a skeleton crew for the past couple of years. In that time, despite all of tragedy surrounding us in so many different ways, we manageing to put on two whole epic digital events: GeekGirlCONLINE ’20 and GeekGirlCONLINE ’21. The backlog of that digital programming can always be found on our Youtube channel for whenever you’re hankering for some geeky content.

Though we’re unbelievably proud of our team and community for coming through and making in happen safely online, we’re beyond excited to announce that GeekGirlCon will be back and in-person on November 5, 2022 as a one-day event. You heard that right: GeekGirlCon ’22 will be a real-life IN-PERSON, ONE-DAY event on November 5, 2022 in Seattle.

Attendee passes are not yet on sale (please stay tuned!), but you can still apply to exhibit, submit a panel or workshop, or volunteer to be an agent! We need everyone if we’re going to give GeekGirlcon the comeback it so deserves, so please submit your ideas.

COVID-19 PROTECTIONS

We take protecting our community and staff seriously. To help us gather in-person safely, attendees of GeekGirlCon ’22 will be required to submit proof of vaccination and wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth during the event. To help us protect each other, we highly encourage our community members to further:

  • Have your badge mailed (instead of picking up in-person the day of)
  • Leave 6 feet of space between yourself and those outside of your party
  • Take a rapid test the day of the convention if one is available
  • Stay home if you feel sick!

We will definitely keep y’all posted as we further work out what meeting in person this year will mean, so please keep an eye here and on our social channels.

GEEKGIRLCON NEEDS YOU!

Lastly, we wanted to point out that we have a bunch of open positions on our year-round staff. The pandemic has been tough on us all, and GeekGirlCon’s staff is much smaller than it has been previous years. We need you to help us make GeekGirlCon ’22 possible! In particular, we’re seeking a Volunteer Manager, Registration Manager, Exhibitor Services Manager, and Cosplay Contest Coordinator. Please email us if you’re interested in those roles or any of the roles listed here.

SEE YOU IN NOVEMBER!

Volunteer With Us!

Calling all Agents! With your help, the GeekGirlCon ’19 Agent team is set to be the best one ever. As the former Volunteer Coordinator, I can directly attest to the fact that volunteering for the Con is a pretty awesome role.

Why? Let me count the ways:

  1. Be part of an incredible team of fellow geeks and nerds, committed to making the Con the best event it can be.
  2. Receive a free pass to the Con.
  3. Gain access to our Agent Headquarters (and all the snacks it contains!)
  4. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how our staff and Agent team puts together such an amazing convention.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • GeekGirlCon ’19 will be held November 16 and 17 at the Conference Center, located at 8th and Pike in downtown Seattle.
  • Agents must be available to work at least 2 shifts (4-5 hours each) during the weekend of the Con.
  • Agents must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.
  • The deadline to submit your application is September 8 by 10pm PST.

This is the perfect way to become even more involved with the convention you love, meet some incredible people, and have the best dang Con weekend ever!

Agent Applications Open Now!

In my opinion, the coolest thing about GeekGirlCon is how much customization can go into everyone’s individual experience of the weekend (besides the epic congregation of a bunch of feminist nerds all in one place, that is). Whether that means spending most of your time gaming or cruising the Exhibitor Hall or deep-diving into our panel offerings, there’s truly no right way to GeekGirlCon. For a lot of folks, I know that a key part of really experiencing any con is by volunteering. At GeekGirlCon, we call our con-weekend volunteers Agents, and we seriously could not do without them, the perfect and irreplaceable extended family that they are.

If you’re interested in joining our ranks again or for the first time this year, here’s what you need to know before applying:

  • We do need Agents to be at least 16 years old.
  • This year, the con falls on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17. We ask that Agents are available to take two shifts (4-5 hours each) over the course of the weekend, though we’ll be able to work with you to make sure that you get to any programming you’re especially excited about!
  • As an Agent, you’ll be required to review some training materials and adhere to our Code of Conduct before hitting the floor.

And also, there are perks!

  • You’ll get a free pass to the con and access to our Agent Headquarters! And an Agent t-shirt, the best of all event-specific clothing!
  • You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at con operations.
  • You’ll be connected with other Agents and year-round staff members; we’d love to meet you!

If you’re at all interested, here’s this year’s application. We’ll contact all those who applied after the applications close in September.

Here’s to a totally awesome GeekGirlCon ‘19!

Agent Applications Close August 13!

We’re in late summer now, and you know what that means? The GeekGirlCon ‘18 countdown can officially begin! For the record, we’ve got 77 days to go.

Everyone has their favorite facet of con-going, whether it’s the panels or the mainstage events or the new friends or just being in a new city for a few days—there’s always something. For some people, it’s the opportunity to get more involved in the operations side of things that makes a con special.

If that’s somewhere near where you fall, I have a quick reminder for you: Applications to be an Agent (AKA the GeekGirlCon volunteers who work only during the con) are closing this upcoming Monday, August 13 at 10:00 p.m.

If you were already planning on volunteering, get those applications in! If you’re on the fence about it, let me give you a couple of details about what you’d be signing up for.

  • First of all, we need all Agents to be at least 16 years old.
  • This year, the con falls on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28. We ask that Agents are available to take two shifts (4-5 hours each) over the course of the weekend. There are many different kinds of roles you’ll be choosing from!
  • As an Agent, you’ll be required to review some training materials and adhere to our Code of Conduct.
  • You’ll get a free pass to the con and access to our Agent Headquarters!
  • You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at con operations and get to know the other awesome folks working as volunteers.

When you’re ready, click through to the application here. And once again, the deadline is August 13. If you have questions about the application, feel free to email volunteer@geekgirlcon.com with them.

We’re excited to hear from you!

Love GeekGirlCon? Want to get more involved? Enjoy working with amazing people? If so, click on over to our Volunteer page and take a peek at our current year-round staff openings. Three of our top needs at the moment are for the roles of Senior Designer, Director of Internal Operations, and Volunteer Manager, but we also have other openings available if none of those are your cup of tea. We’re also looking to grow our copy team, so if you love writing, geek out about grammar, and want to be part of GGC’s greatest team ever (I may be just slightly biased) take a peek at our Copywriter role.

Being a GeekGirlCon staff member means being part of a collaborative, diverse, out-of-the-box team; getting to have a tangible impact on the geeky community; and getting to help build something incredible. I’ve been on staff for almost a year now, and it’s been a fun, motivating, challenging, and rewarding opportunity to support and give back to an organization that is doing great things for girls, women, and geeks around the world.

So, check out our current openings, see if any of them speak to you, and, if so, send in an application. I’d love to meet you at the next staff meeting!
