Gaming at GeekGirlCon ’14
We have so much gaming at GeekGirlCon ‘14 that if you wanted, you could spend the whole weekend playing–or talking about–games!

Whether you’re an experienced gamer or have never picked up a die with more than six sides, head down to the gaming area on the lower level for games on demand, and choose from dozens of options:
- Tabletop Checkout and Free Play
- Play and Win! Win a game just for playing a game; stop by the Free Play table to enter
- Console Room, sponsored by Ubisoft
- Magic: the Gathering with The Lady Planeswalkers Society
- Fun, inexpensive tabletop gaming with Cheapass Games
- Narrative-oriented roleplaying at Story Games
- Valor, a flexible new tabletop system
- Mind the Gap Studios, who aim to produce “one of every type of tabletop game”
- Local tabletop game designers Geek Versus Life Studios
- Time-traveling video game adventures from Golden Glitch Studios
- RPGs with Andy–learn and play with Andy Munich, the 8 Hour Gamer
- Slash, the fanfiction party game by Games By Playdate
- Vampire-hunting storytelling adventure in Time Wars
- Steve Jackson Games hosted by Men in Black
For other hands-on gaming action, you could enter one of our tournamants–Love Letter, King of Tokyo, Sushi Go, or our Late Night Nostalgia tournament featuring mystery old-school games. Or attend a workshop: learn to paint your very own miniature at Paint ‘n’ Take, or design a board game from a box of mystery items in the Mystery Box Game Design Challenge.

On the more theoretical side, join a panel of local indie game developers to explore how “There is No Fail State: Taking Risks and Telling New Stories Through Indie Games,“ or to learn about “Overcoming Indie Game Obstacles” and how the power to create your own video game vision is at your fingertips. A local interactive fiction writer presents “If You Can Write, You Can Make Games,” which will teach you how to turn your fiction-writing skills into games and interactive stories.
The Lady Planeswalkers Society present two panels on finding a place to call home in the tabletop gaming world: “The All-Girl Game Group Might Be Just What You Need” and “Creating Diversity Playgroups,” and House Valkyries, an all-female fighting group, introduce LARPing and Medieval Combat Sports in “Foam-Fight Like a Girl.”
Finally, if you’re looking to break into the world of video game development, our Connections room and Connections panels have something to offer you. Staff from local developer ArenaNet will present a panel on “Hiring in Gaming,’ and the company will have its own table in the Connections room. Also check out the DigiPen Institute of Technology for info on undergraduate and graduate degrees to help you launch your career.
