GeekGirlCon 2017 is here!

Cosplayers and attendees at GeekGirlcon’s kickoff party play trivia based on their fandom of choice.

More than 12,000 people are expected to celebrate a weekend dedicated to empowering women, girls, and non-binary geeks to pursue their passions—whether they love science and technology, comics, literature, gaming, or anything else.

And tonight, we surrounded ourselves with the soft glow of retro machines and sounds of modern robotics at the Living Computer Museum to kick things off for GeekGirlCon 2017.

Incredible cosplayers and fans of Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, and Star Wars showed up to the party to represent their fandom and play trivia. It was a perfect segue into our two-day convention.

Living Computer Museum hosted GeekGirlCon’s Kickoff Party. Left image shows attendees enjoying the party on the first floor, and right image shows people enjoying the retro computer exhibits.

“We’re excited to have GeekGirlCon as a safe place to celebrate what we love and learn from each other,” said Interim Executive Director Jeanette Hotes-Aprato at the kick-off party.

This year’s theme for GeekGirlCon is Geeks United By. Because we’re united by fandoms, STEM, gaming, and so much more.

GeekGirlCon believes that conventions and conferences should include content for less-represented identities. Our emphasis is on female geeks. But our real goal is to promote a culture that brings EVERYONE together to share their geeky quirks.

Over the next two days, we hope GeekGirlCon brings you an awesome experience filled with excitement, education, and fun for all!

So get ready for our four floors packed with wide-ranging panels, an incredible cosplay contest, and all the games!!! From Steven Universe’s Erica Luttrell to Ms. Marvel writer G. Willow Wilson, we have more featured contributors than ever before.

And this year we have a quest for you. Yes, a quest!

A look at some the tasks from the GeekGirlCon quest! Find one of these sheets in your program guide.

Collect stamps in your program guide as you journey through GeekGirlCon. Each stamp earns you one entry to win a prize bag full of assorted treasures from exhibitors. The more stamps, the better your chances of winning.

Our Sunday drawing for the GeekGirlCon Quest will take place during the Closing Celebration. It seems too early to already talk about our closing ceremony—though, it’s going to be great, and you can read about it here.

But back to getting things going! GeekGirlCon this year also includes an entire floor of exhibitors, the return of our fashion show, and, as always, our wondrous DIY Science Zone.

At GeekGirlCon, we’d love to experience amazing moments with you. So feel free to use the hashtag #GGC17 to share your favorite moments!

As you descend upon GeekGirlCon, I’ll leave you with this: have the best con ever!

P.S. You can navigate the convention schedule here or by checking out the program guide in your registration packet. You can browse through the program guide by downloading the guide here. GeekGirlCon also publishes its programming content through the free Guidebook app, and that allows you to create a custom schedule from on your device.

We’ve created a GeekGirlCon Basics page here that lists everything you need to know from accessibility to our convention maps.
