Senior Designer [Volunteer Position]

Job Summary

The Senior Designer is responsible for the creative development and implementation of advertising collateral (print and digital) while maintaining the effectiveness of the GeekGirlCon branding strategy. Works with designers in continuous improvement efforts. Take ownership of larger projects. Reports to the Design Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, supports, and helps ensure completion of more intricate / involved campaigns.
  • Designs marketing collateral to promote GGC and coordinates with other departments on design requests
  • Works with copy team to incorporate text and information into collateral or design assets.
  • Works with print bureaus or online printers when necessary

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years’ graphic design and / or communication related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), as well as working knowledge of Basecamp and the Google suite of apps
  • Advanced knowledge of design principles – color, composition, layout, typography
  • Ability to motivate self as well as Design Team members
  • Works with copy team to incorporate text and information into collateral or design assets.
  • Produces high-quality designs for various social media campaigns, digital campaigns, and print campaigns
  • Basic working knowledge of print processes (digital and offset) and what it takes to take a project from concept to printed reality
  • Knowledge of ethical design practices as well as own design process.
  • Willingness and ability to work under tight schedules
  • Self-motivated and professional
  • Able to communicate efficiently, both verballyorally and in writing (within team and interdepartmentally)
  • Effective organizational skills and knowledge of own design process
  • Able to interact with a team, communicate, and present ideas
  • Handle criticism and feedback professionally and appropriately
  • Able to work autonomously
  • Bonus if you have merch experience

What It Means to Volunteer as GeekGirlCon Staff

  • GeekGirlCon staff positions are all volunteer, non-paid positions.
  • Attendance in-person or remotely for staff and departmental meetings is required.
  • Must maintain prompt and professional correspondence.
  • Time commiment for this role (including meetings, etc) is 5-10 hours per month November-April, 10-15 hours per month May-July, and 15-25 hours per month August-October.
    Between 10-20 hours per week of work is required for this role (including meetings, etc).
  • Most work is conducted over email and with in-person meetings in the Seattle area.
  • The staff is a team of highly dedicated, geeky, and passionate volunteers; it’s a lot of hard work, but an amazing experience with lots of opportunity to help build GeekGirlCon for the future!
