Panel Highlights: Literary Geeks
GeekGirlCon’18 is only a month and a half away! Our panel lineup is packed full of fantastic topics from wonderful, thoughtful, inspirational individuals, and I get to give you the first sneak peek of a few.
For the bookworms among us, this year is going to be especially fun. The Fantastic Librarians and Where to Find Them panel will introduce con-goers to the world of library and information science, sharing how librarians can help readers attain their peak geek level and how they, too, can become masters of information.
If you’re looking for some new comics, books, or audiobooks, Rainy Day Reads: Librarians Recommend a Little Something for Everyone will provide you with suggestions for all ages, focusing on stories and creators that center women; queer, trans-, and nonbinary people; people of color; neurodiverse individuals; and other marginalized identities. If it’s anything like GGC17’s Refill Your Hearts: Fandom Librarians Recommend Stories to Get You Through the Bad Times, it’s sure to be amazing.
Finally, although no specifically book-oriented, It Belongs in a Museum? will help feed the Venn diagram overlap between readers and historians by bringing together some museum folks to discuss whether museum representations in pop culture like Black Panther and Tomb Raider reflect real museums or inadvertently promote outdated notions of what museums are supposed to be.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this year’s panels. Keep an eye out for more highlights in the coming weeks!
