Panel Preview: For Academia Geeks

Can you believe that GeekGirlCon ‘19 is just 49 days away? Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing curated lists of panels that we think you’ll enjoy. Our first list is for the Academia Geeks.
Are you still waiting for an owl to deliver your acceptance letter to Hogwarts? Perhaps you’re a teacher who wishes they could teach jutsu from the Hidden Leaf village? Maybe you dream of teaching like one of your favorite characters? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, we have the perfect panels for you!
During Potions and Pedagogy: Exploring Depictions of Teaching in Genre Media, a panel of experienced (and nerdy) teachers will apply their personal knowledge and current educational theory to the world of fictional classrooms. Panelists will discuss all sorts of fictional educational settings, from the cadet training of space to the classrooms of Hogwarts. Get transported to your favorite fictional classroom on Sunday, November 17 from 1:00-2:00pm.

Learn how to better engage diverse learners and build community in the high school and college classroom at the Fandom as Pedagogy: Geeking Up the High School and College Classroom panel. Yes, there will be examples on how to share fandom in your pedagogy! Catch this panel on Saturday, November 16 from 4:00-5:00pm.
Are you an aspiring teacher, or just curious to find out what teachers are thinking? Make sure to go to the Queer and Nerdy Educators Q&A, and get your questions answered on Saturday, November 16 from 1:30-2:30pm.
We hope that these panels inspire academia geeks to keep learning, and keep teaching. See you in 49 days!
