Ready Player One: Gaming Highlights for GeekGirlCon ’17
I love games, and I think that one of my favorite places at GeekGirlCon is on the Gaming Floor. It’s a big, open space and lends itself to all sorts of game-related content, be it board games to check out, a walk-up RPG area, console games, and more! Here are some of the cool things that will be happening in games over GeekGirlCon weekend:
Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate exclusive first look
Based on the award-winning Betrayal at House on the Hill board game, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate sets the game in the fantasy world of Baldur’s Gate. Hosted by members of the Wizards of the Coast team, the first 30 people in attendance will be eligible to stay to play the game. If it’s anything like Betrayal at House on the Hill, you can play again and again only to discover it’s never the same game twice.
What’s more, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate doesn’t officially get released until October 6, so you can get the scoop on it early!
GeekGirlCon Let’s Play Stage
We will be debuting our Let’s Play stage at GeekGirlCon this year! From this year’s hottest console games to time-tested card games, our Let’s Play stage will feature game developers, professional gamers, and some of our special featured contributors who have lent their voices to game characters. Learn about how games are made and how to play them, as well as being part of our inaugural audience for this new GeekGirlCon event!
Role Playing Games
RPGs are so hot right now. From Dungeons & Dragons to Mouse Guard, you can be anyone you want to be when you’re role playing. Over the weekend, we’ll have a range of RPGs going, and you’re welcome to jump in and join a party, or bring your friends to play together. We’ll have volunteer staffers and game masters on hand to teach you how to play, so RPG cred is not required!
Mystery Box Game Design Challenge
If, after seeing all these different games, you’re inspired to create your own, why not join our Game Design Challenge? Over a few hours, you and your team will work with real game designers from Playtest NW to see how the components and mechanics of a game come together. Stick around afterwards to play and critique your fellow competitors’ creations, and maybe win some prizes for the best game design!
These are just a few of the things that will be happening on the gaming floor, but of course, there’s plenty more happening at GeekGirlCon. Make sure you check out the schedule to see everything that’s happening over the weekend, and come prepared to learn, laugh, and play!
