Registration is Open for the GeekGirlCon ‘16 Costume Contest

Saturday, October 8 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM in Room Garnet

Prep your wigs and armor because registration for GeekGirlCon’s 2016 costume contest is now open!

Whether you’re new to cosplay, or an old hat; a fan of superheros, or an Adventure Time lover; all ages, experience levels, and fandoms are welcome to participate. Category prizes will be awarded, as well as a best in show!

To enter:

  1. Register online. The deadline for registration is noon, October 8.
  2. Meet outside room Garnet at 2 p.m. so that the judges can preview your cosplay creations.
  3. If desired, a rehearsal will be held at 3 p.m. so that participants can practice their walks.
  4. Be ready for your time to shine at 4 p.m. sharp!

Even our littlest geeks can get in on the fun with a noncompetitive children’s march that will take place halfway through the show.

If you’d prefer to watch, participate by being part of the audience! Come cheer on fellow con guests as they strut their stuff on the runway.

OUR JUDGES

Pisara

Pisara has been cosplaying and making costumes since 2008. She specializes in wig styling and crossplaying technique. She currently works for Arda Wigs as well as world-wide commissioned work. A combination of self-taught costuming and wig work and and background in Cosmetology has lead Pisara to make over 100 costumes and style over 200 wigs for commissions and various established companies. Li Kovacs

Li Kovacs started making her own costumes at a young age and has turned her love of video games, anime, and nerdy culture into a profession. For over a decade she has been making costumes and modeling professionally for some of the biggest names in the video game industry including PlatinumGames, Koei?Tecmo, and Nintendo. Her work has won numerous awards and has been featured through the world in online and print magazines. She has been invited to dozens of conventions across the globe where she has been a panelist, host, and judge. Learn more about her at likovacs.com

GeekGirlCon Costume Contest

OFFICIAL COSTUME CONTEST RULES 

  1. Preference will be given for homemade, original, and self-constructed costumes.
  2. Mass-produced or commercial (rented or purchased) costumes should show significant modification from the original form.
  3. Credit is given for makeup and costume construction.
  4. Costumes may contain elements that are purchased (e.g. prop weapon), but should be predominantly original creations.
  5. Cosplay should conform to GeekGirlCon’s Cosplay Weapons Rules.

Additionally, the Costume Contest has the following restrictions:

  1. No pyrotechnics, fog machines, or other such devices are allowed.
  2. No live firearms, no live explosions, or fire.
  3. Handle realistic-looking firearms with care. Any weapon-play must be pre-approved.
  4. No messy substances permitted – wet, dry or oily – that might ruin another’s costume or make the stage dangerous.
  5. No jumping off of or throwing things off the stage or to the judges.
  6. There is a maximum of one minute time limit on all presentations, but there is no minimum. Leave ‘em wanting more.
  7. No microphones or AV equipment will be provided for presentations.
  8. Presentations will consist of entrants walking on to the stage, performing a short action sequence (or you can just stand there) to highlight the costume, then exiting the stage.
  9. All contestants must agree to the Liability Release (see below or at the Info Booth when you sign up).

Liability Release

  • I have read and understood the rules of this costume costume contest as set forth in the instructions and agree to abide by them.
  • I agree to allow GeekGirlCon, its agents, licensees or assignees, the right to use my/our image and/or likeness by media for advertising and/or other promotional purposes.
  • I agree to hold GeekGirlCon, its organizers, and the facility blameless for any accident and/or injury suffered by me during the course of the Costume Contest.
  • I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GeekGirlCon from any and all damages, losses, claims, liabilities, charges, suits, penalties, costs and/or expenses, including but not limited to court costs, attorneys’ fees and expenses, resulting from any act (whether intentional or not), omission or negligence of any injury to myself.
