It’s officially September, and you know what that means! Fall is right around the corner, and as much as we’ll mourn the days of bright blue (or smoke-filled, ugh) skies, carefree days spent outside, and plentiful iced beverages, autumn holds its own special allure for those of us who prefer our temps a little less extreme and our pursuits a little more indoors. Start the fall off on a high note, and check out the science behind sound – For the first part of September, we’re spotlighting music – how instruments work, what happens to your brain when you hear sound, and more. Our ensemble of hands-on activities and demonstrations are a great way to get your brain tuned up and ready for fall. This event is included admission (separate tickets are required for IMAX and Laser Dome shows).

Join us for the 9th annual Cider Summit Seattle. This year’s event will feature nearly 200 ciders from over 50 producers, plus cider cocktails and apple spirits! Specially paired food from Capitol Cider & more. Your well-behaved dog is welcome and can get water & treats in our Dog Lounge! Also check out our event store with bottles-to-go and festival merchandise!
Do you love movies? Events? Community? If so, join us Friday, August 10 for the 16th Annual Skyway Outdoor Cinema Festival’s showing of Wonder Woman! GeekGirlCon will once again be emceeing the pre-show with a trivia contest to give away some 2-day passes to the con!

The showing will take place at 12702 Renton Ave S, Seattle 98178 behind the 7-11. The pre-show will kick off at 8:00 p.m., so plan to arrive and get settled by 7:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 27, head to Town Hall Seattle for “Women Lead a Changing World,” an event hosted by the Women’s Funding Alliance (and includes our Programming and Events Director Jennifer K. Stuller!).
Here’s the description from the event website:
“It’s a defining time for women and girls, both locally and around the world. The playing field is changing dramatically and the time for powerful, fresh leadership is now. Be among the first to hear new information about critical factors shaping the future of women and girls. Find out how five extraordinary women are leading the way, and learn how you can take action…whether you have two minutes, two hours or two days!”
We were able to catch up with Sara Reyerson, director of grant programs at Women’s Funding Alliance and coordinator of the event. Read on to see what she had to say about it … including a few sneak peeks at some new data that will be shared at the event!
Can you tell us more details about “Women Lead a Changing World?”
This event is all about what matters most to women and girls in Washington State – and how each of us can be leaders in taking action. The program features: Compelling new data about critical issues. Inspiring stories. Five extraordinary women leading change for women and girls, locally and nationally. And a motivating call to action!
Why do you think now is the right time to have this conversation?
This conversation zeros in on emerging trends facing women and girls. New data will be shared. A few sneak peeks:
• 72 percent of women who work outside the home are in industries that pay below our state average. • 80 percent: The share of 10th-grade girls who report being bullied or harassed via cell phone or computer. • Women hold less than 1/3 of our state legislative seats, and 80 percent of corporations have less than three women on their boards of directors.
Each of the speakers will share how they are leading in a movement for change – championing the well-being of girls and women across our state and nation.
What are one or two things you hope people will take away from the event?
We hope every person attending the event will see themselves in the stories and information shared by the speakers. And we hope each person leaves having an idea of how she/he can personally take action to improve the lives of women and girls!

For those who haven’t checked it out yet, Raygun Lounge is a full-service tabletop game lounge where you can geek out and relax with friends. We are thrilled to partner with them to host this event!
What can you expect at this party? Game demos, beer and wine, groovy tunes from DJ PBear, and free mead for the hobbits among us! Please note that the event is for those age 21 and over.
