TV Dinner: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

From the desktop of Kelly, GeekGirlCon Special Events Director:

Last week, GeekGirlCon was back at Central Cinema for another awesome TV Dinner! A crowd of about 65 folks showed up to watch the BBC’s 1981 production of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. As a newcomer to this series, I had no expectations, but now it goes firmly in the favorites win category next to other British shows like IT Crowd, MisFits, and Survivors. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is really funny. I found myself, at many times during the night , pondering the depths of Douglas Adams’ imagination. And, how much fun it would have been to talk with him over a steaming cup o tea about how he created these characters and planets.

GeekGirlCon staff asked a few trivia question about The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy at intermission. We gave away GeekGIrlCon tote bags and two $25 gift certificates for the Central Cinema to the knowledgeable winners. I love giving out prizes!

Perhaps the funniest part of the night, though, was the commercial for Pajama Jeans! It is an intriguing idea, but I wonder about the execution. Do you have a pair? Leave a note in the comments if you’ve seen them in person. I’m dying to know more.

Here is a plug for our next TV Dinner at Central Cinema: Join us on February 15th for another for a trek-tacular night of Star Trek episodes focused on Uhura. Episodes include Mirror, Mirror, Plato’s Stepchildren, and an episode from Star Trek: The Animated Series.
