Proof that Agents are the best. (Image Description: An Agent stands in the Conference Center during GeekGirlCon ’17. They are wearing a teal Agent t-shirt, teal tights, and and a black skirt. They are smiling and resting their hand on a stanchion. Photo by Sayed Alamy.)
Calling all Agents! With your help, the GeekGirlCon ’19 Agent team is set to be the best one ever. As the former Volunteer Coordinator, I can directly attest to the fact that volunteering for the Con is a pretty awesome role.
Why? Let me count the ways:
Be part of an incredible team of fellow geeks and nerds, committed to making the Con the best event it can be.
Receive a free pass to the Con.
Gain access to our Agent Headquarters (and all the snacks it contains!)
Get a behind-the-scenes look at how our staff and Agent team puts together such an amazing convention.
Here’s what you need to know:
GeekGirlCon ’19 will be held November 16 and 17 at the Conference Center, located at 8th and Pike in downtown Seattle.
Agents must be available to work at least 2 shifts (4-5 hours each) during the weekend of the Con.
Agents must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.
The deadline to submit your application is September 8 by 10pm PST.
This is the perfect way to become even more involved with the convention you love, meet some incredible people, and have the best dang Con weekend ever!
In my opinion, the coolest thing about GeekGirlCon is how much customization can go into everyone’s individual experience of the weekend (besides the epic congregation of a bunch of feminist nerds all in one place, that is). Whether that means spending most of your time gaming or cruising the Exhibitor Hall or deep-diving into our panel offerings, there’s truly no right way to GeekGirlCon. For a lot of folks, I know that a key part of really experiencing any con is by volunteering. At GeekGirlCon, we call our con-weekend volunteers Agents, and we seriously could not do without them, the perfect and irreplaceable extended family that they are.
If you’re interested in joining our ranks again or for the first time this year, here’s what you need to know before applying:
We do need Agents to be at least 16 years old.
This year, the con falls on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17. We ask that Agents are available to take two shifts (4-5 hours each) over the course of the weekend, though we’ll be able to work with you to make sure that you get to any programming you’re especially excited about!
As an Agent, you’ll be required to review some training materials and adhere to our Code of Conduct before hitting the floor.
And also, there are perks!
You’ll get a free pass to the con and access to our Agent Headquarters! And an Agent t-shirt, the best of all event-specific clothing!
You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at con operations.
You’ll be connected with other Agents and year-round staff members; we’d love to meet you!
If you’re at all interested, here’s this year’s application. We’ll contact all those who applied after the applications close in September.
Guess what? You’re in luck! Why? Because GeekGirlCon is looking for amazing, passionate individuals to join our team, and that means YOU!

Currently, we have a wide variety of opportunities to get involved and help out, whether with a larger commitment of a staff role throughout the year, individual event volunteers, or GeekGirlCon Agents and Special Agents.
From Copywriter to Accessibility Manager to Executive Director (wrangling all of the exciting elements that make GeekGirlCon possible!), we have a wide variety of roles to fit your interests, skills, and desired time commitment.
For more information on available positions and detailed role descriptions, check us out at https://geekgirlcon.com/get-involved/volunteer/. Help us make GeekGirlCon ‘18 better than ever by joining our hard-working, fun-loving, tight-knit team!

We’re in late summer now, and you know what that means? The GeekGirlCon ‘18 countdown can officially begin! For the record, we’ve got 77 days to go.
Everyone has their favorite facet of con-going, whether it’s the panels or the mainstage events or the new friends or just being in a new city for a few days—there’s always something. For some people, it’s the opportunity to get more involved in the operations side of things that makes a con special.
If that’s somewhere near where you fall, I have a quick reminder for you: Applications to be an Agent (AKA the GeekGirlCon volunteers who work only during the con) are closing this upcoming Monday, August 13 at 10:00 p.m.
If you were already planning on volunteering, get those applications in! If you’re on the fence about it, let me give you a couple of details about what you’d be signing up for.
First of all, we need all Agents to be at least 16 years old.
