Virtual Expo Hall will Open on November 13

Starting your holiday shopping early this year? Looking for the perfect gift for someone? Look no further than the GeekGirlCONLINE ‘21 Virtual Expo Hall!

The Virtual Expo Hall will open next weekend, November 13, and remain open until the end of the year. The Virtual Expo Hall is full of unique, geeky gifts as far as the virtual eye can see. You can find art, fashion, comics, decor, books, games, housewares, and toys, in addition to gifts from LGBTQ+-owned and POC-owned businesses. If you can’t find what you’re looking for browsing through the different categories, there is also an “All” category where you can see all exhibitors and browse gifts that didn’t fit into a specific category. There is truly something for everyone among the offerings of our 120+ exhibitors.

Here’s a little preview of what the Virtual Expo Hall will look like this year! [Description: Screenshot of GeekGirlCon’s website on the Virtual Expo Hall page. At the top of the page, it says, “Welcome to the Virtual Expo Hall. The description under says, “Welcome to the GeekGirlCONLINE Virtual Expo Hall! We’re honored to bring one of the main highlights of our physical convention to you at home. The Virtual Expo hall isn’t a mall, but a reflection of our vibrant, diverse community. We’re proud to celebrate the work of these creators, artists, and artisans—lovingly curated by our staff for you. Please note that once you click on a vendor you will be taken away from GeekGirlCon.com and directed to their own unique storefront.” Under that, there are colorful bubbles that say “Art, LGBTQ Owned, and Fashion.” On the left side, there’s a vertical menu of some of the categories the stores are sorted by.]

Looking for an exhibitor that has been at a past con? Several veteran GeekGirlCon exhibitors will be back this year, like Mishu Boutique, SewCherie, Clockwork Art. If you’re looking for new exhibitors, we also have first-timers like Filipina-owned Nerdwax Candle Co. and Latinx cartoonist PeachJugo. We’re excited to be able to support past exhibitors in addition to new contributors from grassroots efforts encouraging veteran exhibitors to refer friends and family to participate. We’re also very happy to have been able to offer no fee to apply or participate in the Virtual Expo Hall.

From jewelry, art commissions and prints, clothes and accessories, decorative items, games, pins/buttons/stickers to other unique items, you can find something for everyone on your list, and over 90% of our exhibitor businesses are women-owned. You will find them all tagged throughout the Virtual Expo Hall for easy browsing.

Accessibility is a main focus of the Virtual Expo Hall this year as well. We have asked all applicants for the Expo Hall to include alt-text and descriptions for their ‘booth’ images so that folks using screenreaders can more easily navigate the site. You can also click the accessibility button in the top left of the window when viewing the site in order to find all of the accessibility features that are built into the site. We hope these new features will make the shopping experience better for all, and we will keep trying to improve accessibility year after year.

On a final note, GeekGirlCon is looking for a new Exhibitor Services Manager for next year! We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to be a part of the team behind putting together a great Virtual Expo Hall!

Click here to check out the job listing (the button to apply is at the bottom of that page). If you have any questions about the position or application process, please email Christina Ramey at christina@geekgirlcon.com.

  1. SewCherie is happy that GeekGirlCon is still happening, even if it’s only virtual! I’ll be posting a discount code for GGC shopping via Twitter closer to this weekend @
