Social Media Generalist [Volunteer Position]

Job Summary
The Social Media Generalist maintains continuity in scheduled content across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. GeekGirlCon seeks a detail-oriented and flexible individual to assist the GeekGirlCon social media team in creating a vibrant and active online community, promoting and sharing GeekGirlCon events, and ensuring brand awareness cohesion across all currently active social media platforms.

Manager of Social Media
Responsibilities
- Scheduling content cross-platform
- Monitoring community-submitted questions and comments and replying promptly
- Updating GeekGirlCon Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts with
- Information about GeekGirlCon
- Information not related to GeekGirlCon that may interest target communities
- Upcoming GeekGirlCon events and announcements
- Works cross-departmentally to schedule and coordinate and promote
- Assists in the creation and running of social media campaigns
- Ensures social media presence reflects current GeekGirlCon branding
- Helps create, run, and maintain ads with the help of the Social Media Manager and Social Media team
- Familiarity with social media best practices
- Ensure the smooth running of GeekGirlCon social media accounts
- Fills in for open social media positions as needed
- Helps ensure all media is uploaded in a timely manner
- Understands how to use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram effectively
- Interact with design and marketing to create mission-aligned content
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- Familiarity with Hootsuite, Tumblr, Tiktok, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms a plus
- Familiarity with Canva is a plus
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and an environment of respect, understanding, and positive communication
- Familiarity with social media best practices
- Excellent communication skills
What It Means to Volunteer as GeekGirlCon Staff
- GeekGirlCon staff positions are all volunteer, non-paid positions.
- Attendance remotely (or in-person, during non-pandemic times) for staff and departmental meetings is required.
- Must maintain prompt and professional correspondence.
- Most work is conducted over email and with in-person meetings in the Seattle area.
- Between 5-10 hours per week of work is required for this role (including meetings, etc).
- The staff is a team of highly dedicated, geeky, and passionate volunteers; it’s a lot of hard work, but an amazing experience with lots of opportunity to help build GeekGirlCon for the future!
